Motorcyclist dies at scene of fatal Monaro Highway accident

A motorcyclist died this morning in a fatal multi-vehicle accident on the Monaro Highway north of Michelago that has resulted in the highway being closed in both directions for most of the day.

The motorcyclist died at the scene after colliding with a truck.

Traffic on the Monaro Highway has been affected by the accident since at least 8.32am today, with light vehicles still being diverted around the crash onto Kelly Road as at 3.17pm.

Heavy vehicles are now being escorted through the site, having earlier been advised to avoid the area.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and to exercise caution.

They should also follow the directions of emergency services and traffic crews.

Due to the nature of the crash, the highway is expected to be closed for some time.
