Canberrans are being invited to have their say on proposed design upgrades for Dickson and Braddon’s shopping and dining precincts, with construction expected to commence in 2022.
A renewed public space of canopy structures, a shared alfresco dining area, and a water play feature are just a few of the design submissions for Woolley Street, Dickson.
The Dickson streetscape design will support a variety of community events, leisure opportunities and social interactions, as well as improve pedestrian safety and cycling access.
The Braddon project includes public upgrades for Lonsdale Street and its intersections with Girrahween and Cooyong Streets to support walkability and improve connections between Civic, Braddon and Haig Park.
Braddon will also receive a decorative lighting upgrade to refresh Lonsdale Street’s median trees by mid-next year – this will ensure the precinct continues to be a prime destination for visitors while supporting the region’s night economy.
The draft design strives to make the popular entertainment and dining precincts more accessible, safer and attractive for local businesses, and residents.
The City Renewal Authority say both the Dickson and Braddon streetscape design upgrades will continue to support Canberra’s recovery from COVID-19 by stimulating economic activity and creating safer, more accessible, and attractive places for Canberrans and visitors to enjoy.
The designs reflect the recommendations of the Dickson and Braddon place plans, which were developed in partnership with the local community in 2018.
The Braddon design concepts are expected to be released in the coming weeks and the ACT Government will also seek community feedback on the proposed design for Lonsdale Street.
