A 66-year-old Holt man was charged with drug offences yesterday, Monday 29 March, after allegedly selling cannabis to a 13-year-old.
Around 2.40pm yesterday, police observed the man interacting with a group of young people at Kippax Shopping Centre.
Police enquiries determined the man had sold cannabis to one of the minors and he was subsequently placed under arrest.
The incident follows a number of information reports to police regarding anti-social behaviour in the area.
Officer in Charge of Belconnen Police Station, Inspector Brett Booth, thanked the members of the public who reported the suspicious activity.
“Drug dealers do enough damage to the community let alone when they are preying on young kids,” Inspector Booth said.
“It’s absolutely despicable behaviour and this incident proves once again how the community’s assistance is invaluable to police in continuing our swift response to crime.
“It is your community, you know when something is out of place in your neighbourhood and I would encourage all Canberrans to report suspicious activity to Crime Stoppers.”
The man will face court on Wednesday 28 April, charged with trafficking in cannabis.
ACT Policing urges people with information regarding drug dealers to contact Crime Stoppers. Information can be provided anonymously on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
