ACT lifts travel requirements from Victoria

The ACT Government has lifted travel requirements from Greater Melbourne, ACT Health announced in a media statement yesterday, 23 May. All COVID-19 exposure locations in Greater Melbourne have been removed from the ACT’s COVID-19 Areas of Concern Notice and the ACT COVID-19 website.

Currently, anyone from Greater Melbourne can travel freely to the ACT.

In addition, the Greater Melbourne region is no longer considered a geographical area of risk in relation to attending high-risk settings in the ACT.

According to ACT Health, this means that staff, visitors and volunteers who have been to Greater Melbourne in the previous 14 days are again able to attend high-risk settings in the ACT. High-risk settings include hospitals, residential aged care facilities, correctional facilities and residential accommodation facilities that support people who require frequent, close personal care and who are vulnerable to severe disease.

Staff who have been in Greater Melbourne in the past 14 days, who provide home-based aged care and disability services that involve close physical contact with clients, are also able to resume providing in-home care.

The lifting of the ACT travel requirements from Victoria also means that there are currently no interstate ACT travel requirements in place.

Keeping Canberra safe and strong

In the statement, ACT Health also reminded Canberrans that the COVID-19 situation in states and territories can change quickly.

The statement continued: “If you are intending to, or have recently travelled interstate, keep checking the public health advice in the relevant state or territory before travelling and for 14 days after returning.

“These recent developments show that COVID-19 is still with us.  ACT residents and visitors should continue to keep Canberra safe and strong by:

  • staying home if unwell
  • getting tested for COVID-19 if experiencing even mild COVID-like symptoms
  • physically distancing from people you do not know
  • practising careful hand and respiratory hygiene.”
