ACT updates travel advice for WA, QLD and NT

ACT Health is updating and introducing new travel advice for the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland today, Tuesday 29 June.

These directions will align with the stay-at-home requirements being put in place in each of these jurisdictions.

The new travel advice comes with a “stark reminder” from ACT Health for “all Canberrans to reconsider interstate travel at this time” and avoid any COVID-19 affected areas.

ACT Health advises that if you are to travel, you must abide by all public health directions in place in the jurisdiction you travel to and the ACT. This includes changing travel plans and adhering to public health instructions upon your return.

Western Australia

A new stay-at-home requirement for the Perth and Peel regions was introduced from 12 midday (AEST) today until 11.59pm (AEST) Friday 2 July.

In addition, anyone in the ACT who has spent time in the Perth or Peel regions between 22 June 2021 and midday today will need to complete an online declaration form on the ACT COVID-19 website. This is to ensure ACT Health is able to contact people if travel directions need to be escalated in the coming days.

Northern Territory

With the situation in the NT continuing to develop, the current stay-at-home order will be extended for people who have been in City of Darwin, City of Palmerston, and Litchfield LGAs in the NT for a further 72 hours until 1.30pm (AEST) Friday 2 July.

Anyone in the ACT who has spent any time in the NT LGAs between 18 June 2021 and 4pm on 27 June will not need to follow the stay-at-home requirement but must complete an online declaration form.

Queensland

A new stay-at-home requirement for parts of South East Queensland from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Magnetic Island and Palm Island areas will be introduced from 6pm today (AEST) until 11.59pm (AEST) Friday 2 July.

In addition, anyone who has spent time in these regions between 19 June 2021 and 6pm today will need to complete an online declaration form on the ACT COVID-19 website. This is to ensure ACT Health is able to contact people if travel directions need to be escalated in the coming days.

More information on these new and updated stay-at-home requirements, including the updated declaration forms, will be added to the ACT COVID-19 website this afternoon.

Update to health facility visitor policy

As the COVID-19 situation in Australia continues to evolve, health facilities in the ACT have made precautionary changes to keep the Territory’s most vulnerable patients safe and to further protect staff and visitors. This includes a requirement for staff and visitors to wear surgical masks at all health facilities, and new restrictions on the number of people at these high-risk settings. Masks will be handed out at all screening points on entry to the facility and you must wear a new mask each day.

From tomorrow (30 June), the visitor policy at health facilities in the ACT will be changed to one visitor per patient, per day. Children and young people (0-17 years) should continue to avoid visiting health facilities, where possible.

Patients attending an outpatient and/or a community health clinic should, where possible, attend alone. If patients do require a support person, this should be limited to one person. Admitted babies, children and young people (0-17 years) may have one parent/carer present at all times, with an additional visitor up to one hour each day.

Women attending antenatal outpatient appointments can be accompanied by a support person. Women admitted for care related to birthing may have up to two support persons present. This should be pre-planned with the relevant midwifery and obstetric treating team during antenatal care.

In addition, all visitors to ACT health facilities must continue to:

  • complete the ACT health facilities digital screening tool (screening.covid19.act.gov.au);
  • wear a surgical face mask at all times while in the health facility;
  • maintain social and physical distancing;
  • practice good hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene; and
  • stay at home if unwell and get tested for COVID-19, even if experiencing mild symptoms.

ACT Health will be updating the ACT COVID-19 website with travel advice and exposure locations twice daily, at 10am and 6pm.
