Independent Assessments proposed for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) have been scrapped following the Disability Reform Ministers Meeting on Friday, a move ACT Minister for Disability Emma Davidson called “a massive win” for the community who has been advocating for months against this reform.
“This is a massive win for the sector and it is clear that the voices of people with disability were heard loud and clear in today’s meeting,” Ms Davidson said on Friday night, 9 July.
“We look forward to co-designing a new model with the community towards a more equitable scheme,” she said.
“The mood in the meeting leaned towards a person-centred approach, which the community has been advocating for, since the first trial of Independent Assessments. The time has come for genuine community co-design.
“I look forward to the official communique being released with more detail.”
