One person dead after house fire in Ngunnawal

ACT Policing is preparing a report for the Coroner after a person was found dead following a house fire at a residence in Ngunnawal today, Wednesday 11 August.

About 12.20am, police were called to a unit complex in Paul Coe Crescent, Ngunnawal following witness reports of flames and smoke.

ACT Fire & Rescue attended and extinguished the fire.

After the fire was extinguished, the resident of the home remained unaccounted for.

A search of the premises, which was delayed due to concerns over the structural integrity of the building this morning, located a body about 12.40pm.

The circumstances surrounding the fire will be investigated by ACT Policing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or have information about the fire, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.

In a statement this afternoon, the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ACTESA) expressed their sincere condolences to the family, friends and neighbours of the person who died in the house fire on Paul Coe Crescent in Ngunnawal in the early hours of this morning.

“Our thoughts are also with the first responders who attended the scene from ACT Fire & Rescue, ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Policing,” the statement continued.
