Brilliant baking raises funds for Perinatal Wellbeing Centre

Australians have turned to #isobaking during the COVID-19 pandemic, but now when you switch on your oven, you can also raise some valuable funds for the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre.

In the spirit of their annual fundraiser Cake Off, which has been postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19, the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre has launched #CakedIt to run throughout May.

“We were so disappointed to postpone Cake Off until 2021 because as well as bringing in much needed funds, it also creates lots of fun for the whole community,” CEO Dr Yvonne Luxford said.

“We hope that #CakedIt will put the fun back in fundraising and will brighten up our media feeds during this difficult time.”

Inspired by the antics of popular Netflix competition program, Nailed It!, the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre is challenging the community to find an image of a cake they like and create something suitably amazing – or hilarious – and share online. After baking and decorating your creation, be sure to tag #CakedIt and Perinatal Wellbeing Centre’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).

While #CakedIt is about baking and having fun, it also aims to raise important funds for the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre, which has seen increased demand for their services during COVID-19. The Centre experienced a 44% increase in new clients in March.

Perinatal Wellbeing Centre provides free mental health support, education, information and referral for families during pregnancy and after the birth of baby.

With the onset of COVID-19, the Centre found that anxiety and stress of new parents and families was increasing. Adjusting to life with a new baby already brings about changes that can be overwhelming; however, in the current situation, these feeling can become more acute.

Additional grants the organisation have received have helped them better cope with this surge in demand, but their capacity is stretched. Through the #CakedIt appeal, they hope to cover the shortfall in funds. All donations made to the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre of $2 and over are tax deductible. The appeal is expected to end on 30 May.
