Meet Dr Mohammed Asif, our newest friendly GP at Health Plus

Another passionate General Practitioner has joined Health Plus General Practice in Casey. His can-do attitude and welcoming nature are ideal for identifying Health Plus clients’ needs and skilfully guiding them towards health and wellbeing.

Meet Dr Mohammed Asif. Over the past 16 years, his diverse career has taken him from Fiji to Australia, practising medicine up and down the coast.

From metropolitan to regional hospitals, emergency care to general practice, Dr Asif knows from experience exactly where he works best.

“The warm welcoming community of country towns taught me about Australian living and showed me how a GP can become like extended family.  The sense of community is unparalleled,” he said. “I chose to practise in Canberra because it really is a big country town.”

Dr Asif has seen firsthand how bedside manner can make or break a patient’s treatment. Working in emergency care, he couldn’t help but wonder what happened to his patients after they left the ED. Now he practises by the ethos that the doctor-patient relationship doesn’t happen overnight.

“Continuance of care is very important to me. When you invest enough time into a doctor-patient relationship, you do see that people are capable of enormous changes in their lives,” he smiled.

A big believer in togetherness, Dr Asif has found a new family at Health Plus General Practice, where practising good medicine goes hand and hand with keeping family and community at the forefront.

A father of two, he specialises in paediatrics, as well as general dermatology and minor skin procedures.

“Because of the harsher environment, combined with Australians’ love of being outdoors, dry skin, eczema and allergies are prominent in the bush capital. There’s no need to suffer in silence, often there’s something we can do to help.”

Outside of work, when he’s not spending time with his family and new baby, Dr Asif can be found dabbling in art and acrylic painting, as well as reading about philosophy and watching rugby, which is as popular in Fiji as it is in the ACT. He’s also fluent in Fijian and Hindi.

If you like your GPs warm and family-oriented, then Dr Asif is for you.
