Verity Hawkins appointed new Cancer Council ACT CEO

Cancer Council ACT has announced Verity Hawkins as the newly appointed CEO to lead the cancer prevention, support and research organisation.

Most recently CEO of Playgroup Australia and Life Education Australia, Ms Hawkins is a skilled and respected social responsibility leader with over 25 years’ experience.

Announcing the appointment, Cancer Council ACT president Roger Buckley said: “Verity is a talented executive who has led high impact partnerships between the not-for-profit, government, philanthropic and corporate sectors. In her most recent roles, she secured multimillion dollar Commonwealth grants and enhanced the delivery of essential community services.

“She brings exceptional understanding of the ACT’s health and community sectors and extensive operational experience managing complex organisations and designing programs aimed at increasing philanthropic income.

“We are thrilled to welcome Verity to the Cancer Council team and can’t wait to watch her bring fresh momentum to our organisation undergoing significant transformation.”

Ms Hawkins said she was excited to join Cancer Council ACT and to helping strengthen services and programs to better assist cancer patients, their carers, families and friends.

“Cancer Council ACT is a highly regarded organisation within the health sector, and I am proud to be a part of that,” she said. “I look forward to continuing to support those impacted by cancer in our community and contributing to a healthier ACT.” 

Ms Hawkins started her role as CEO today, Monday 18 October.
