Four-wing Forrest home named 2021 House of the Year

A stunning home in Forrest created by Manteena Residential, Architects Ring & Associates, and The Dept. of Design has been named the Master Builders ACT and Asset Construction Hire 2021 House of the Year.

An homage to aeronautical engineering, the layout separates the home into four wings – the double-height entry, the office, the living zone, and the sleeping zone.

Nestled on a 4,900 sqm block, the expansive home is complemented by the 15m x 5m swimming pool, an impressive fishpond, beautiful heritage trees and classic hedging.

This award-winning home has the perfect mix of spaces for creativity, relaxation, entertainment, and studious endeavours.

The entryway’s glass staircase was inspired by the Apple California store, with a combination of structural glass stringer balustrade being the design decision to support the floating timber treads.

Two island benches in the kitchen help to create the perfect family gathering space, and the rich, charcoal grooved panelling on the wall artfully conceals the spacious butler’s pantry.

Perhaps the most innovative room in the house, the expansive Lego room is meticulously planned. Specific lighting and display cabinetry were styled to best serve the Lego creations, and the specialist lighting makes it a supreme office/gaming space, much to the owner’s delight.

Master Builders ACT CEO Michael Hopkins said he was happy that three MBA members had created this outstanding home.

“It was a monumental undertaking, and it really is a credit to their level of professionalism that they were able to execute this cohesive design and build,” Mr Hopkins said.

“In my time at MBA, I can honestly say I have never seen a room like the Lego room in this home. It’s a testament to our members that they work with their clients so well, that they can deliver these unique elements in a creative and functional way.”

The home also won Bathroom Project more than $30,000, Custom Built/Project Home more than $2 million, and Kitchen Project more than $100,000.
