Canberra records nine new COVID-19 cases

The ACT has recorded its second straight day of single-digit COVID-19 cases, with nine new infections in the latest 24-hour period.

The tally on Monday comes as the territory’s vaccine rate continues to climb, with 88 per cent of residents over 12 now fully vaccinated.

The number of COVID-19 cases in hospitals stands at 20, while the number in intensive care fell to 10, with five of those on ventilators.

However, testing numbers in the territory have continued to fall, with just 647 new tests conducted on Sunday.

The number of new cases is the lowest number of daily infections in a month.

There are now 332 active cases of COVID-19 in Canberra, with the total number of cases in the outbreak now standing at 1595.

It comes as more school students in the ACT made their return to the classroom.

Early childhood, preschool to year two, along with years six, nine and 10 all returned to in-person lessons on Monday.

Year 11 and 12 students have already been back at school for a week.

All remaining year groups will return on November 1.

ACT Health is expected to provide a full epidemiological update on the COVID-19 situation on Tuesday.
