ACT records 13 new COVID-19 cases, schools exposed

The ACT has recorded 13 new COVID-19 cases overnight, with a growing number of schools now exposed to the virus.

The total number of cases in the ACT during the current outbreak now stands at 1,729 with active cases down by one to 135.

One patient is currently in hospital with coronavirus and they are in the ICU requiring ventilation.

The ACT is also nearing the 95 per cent fully vaccinated milestone, with 94.4 per cent of the eligible population aged 12 years and over now double dosed.

There were 1,147 negative test results in the previous 24 hours.

The list of schools exposed to the virus in Canberra has grown to nine, with 31 cases now linked to Wanniassa school.

ACT Health advised that Orana Steiner School, Melrose High School, Namadgi High School, Holy Family School, Ainslie, Gordon, St Anthony’s Parish Primary and Erindale college have all been exposed to positive cases.

The news comes as NSW recorded 244 new cases and one death while Victoria had 1,173 cases and nine deaths.
