Gary the garbage truck invites you to get onboard

If you have a toddler or pre-schooler who eagerly awaits the garbage truck’s arrival every week, then you might like to get on board a crowd-funding campaign to support publication of a children’s picture book about ‘Gary the Garbo’.

Creator Simon Larcey named the garbage truck Gary when his son was 18 months old, as it was easy to remember for his little boy who was excited whenever the garbage truck came.

Each week they could yell out his name and wave to Gary when he showed up on a Thursday morning.

Seeing how Gary made his son so excited and happy, Simon decided to write a book and give it to his son for his third birthday.

It also occurred to Simon that the garbage truck had universal appeal and the idea to publish the book for a wider audience to enjoy transpired.

Over the past few years, creator and author Simon Larcey has penned three books:

  • Gary the Garbo and the lost keys
  • Gary the Garbo and the missing footballs
  • Gary the Garbo and the surfing dog

To help make Gary famous, Simon has launched a pozible crowd funding campaign with the aim of raising $4,000 to help fund the cost of publishing 1,000 copies of his first book, Gary the Garbo and the lost keys.

Options include: $10+ (no reward); $25+ to receive the book and a badge; $50+ for the book and a Gary T-shirt; $100+ for book, T-shirt and a read-through and Q&A webinar with the author; $250+ for 10 books, 10 badges and a poster; $500+ for 10 books, 10 badges and a live reading session.

As part of his mission, the author will donate $1 from every book sale to his local charity, Geelong Mums, which supports more than 6,000 babies and children in the Geelong community with vital nursery equipment, clothing, nappies and books.

A new website is in development where all the books and a range of merchandise will be available.
