Melbourne NRL prop Tui Kamikamica has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after an incident with an unknown woman in a Brisbane nightspot.

Queensland Police will allege the 27-year-old, who has been stood down by his NRL club, assaulted a 30-year-old woman in Fortitude Valley almost two weeks ago on November 13.

However it was only on Thursday, at the conclusion of a police investigation, that the Storm were made aware of the incident.

The club then informed the NRL’s Integrity Unit and on Friday confirmed he had been stood down.

Kamikamica, who has played 55 NRL games and represented Fiji 12 times, will appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 10.

He will remain stood down until he returns to Melbourne for a formal, in-person interview with the club next week.

“Due to the seriousness of the allegations, the club made the decision to stand down Kamikamica,” a Storm statement read.

“Storm believes firmly that there is no place in the game or society for violence against women at any time, in any circumstance.”

The incident comes after Cameron Munster, Brandon Smith and Chris Lewis were fined and suspended after the white powder video scandal following their preliminary final exit.

Meanwhile, veteran forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona is also creating unwanted headlines, standing firm on his anti-COVID-19 vaccination stance that precludes him from training and threatens his future at the club.

And, while Christian Welch has recommitted to the club, it comes hot on the heels of two-time premiership player Felise Kaufusi becoming the first major name to join the new Dolphins franchise from 2023.
