Canberra Capitals fans will have to wait even longer to see the team after their WNBL round two match was cancelled due to a COVID-19 case at the club.

The individual attended a full team training session on Tuesday morning, 7 December, and under ACT government guidelines, everyone in attendance must isolate for seven days as close contacts. The positive case must quarantine for 14 days.

The Caps were scheduled to face the Sydney Flames on Sunday 12 December at the National Convention Centre in what would have been their first match in Canberra for 649 days.

Canberra defeated Sydney 58-55 on Sunday 5 December and as a precaution, all Flames players will also undergo testing.

The WNBL will work with both teams to reschedule the game to a later date in the season.

Paul Maley Executive General Manager Competitions said the league will continue to monitor the situation.

“The WNBL has a COVID safety plan for all players, officials and fans that ensures we adhere to all Government requirements and move swiftly to prevent any spread of the virus,” Maley said.

“We will continue to monitor this situation closely working collaboratively with the clubs.”
