ACT records 17th consecutive day of no new cases

As Canberra records its 17th consecutive day of no new COVID-19 cases, ACT Health advises that staying at home as much as possible and avoiding large crowds remain the best ways to reduce any potential risk of infection.

ACT Health’s daily COVID-19 update today stated: “We know people are eager to leave their homes and it is understandable that people want to get out and about, however we must remember that it only takes one person with COVID-19 to come into contact with others to create a cluster and potentially start a new wave of COVID-19”.

“We don’t want to go backwards so it is important people don’t become complacent or careless with their actions,” the statement said.

The ACT’s total number of confirmed cases is still 107, which includes three deaths and 104 recovered cases.

The number of negative tests in the ACT is now 14,916 with 311 test results received in the past 24 hours.

Australian statistics

Nationally, as at Wednesday 20 May 9pm, Australia had recorded 100 deaths due to COVID-19. Thirteen new confirmed cases were recorded in the previous 24 hours, bringing the national total to 7,079. Total number of recovered cases was 6,444.

There are 43 cases admitted to hospital in Australia, including nine in ICUs.

Almost two-thirds (62.2%) of cases in Australia were acquired overseas.
