More charges laid following Old Parliament House fire

Joint taskforce members investigating Operation Pike and members of ACT Policing have arrested and charged two more men for their alleged involvement in the fire at Old Parliament House on 30 December 2021.   

Detectives made the arrests today, Thursday 13 January, with the support of ACT Policing and AFP – Specialist Protective Command resources in Parkes, ACT.  

  • A 30-year-old Bourke NSW man has been charged with aid/abet arson of a building, deface public property, aiding and abetting the damage of property, assaulting a frontline service worker and resisting a territory public official; 
  • A 38-year-old Lindendale NSW man has been charged with assaulting a frontline service worker, obstructing a public official and breach of bail.  

Both men are expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow morning, Friday 14 January.  

Two other men and a woman who were arrested at Parliament House this morning were charged with breach of the peace.  

The Operation Pike joint taskforce is continuing investigations to identify other people involved in the fire and other criminal activity. The joint taskforce has now charged three people for their alleged involvement in the fire at Old Parliament House.
