ACT records 594 new COVID-19 cases, more RATs for schools

The ACT has recorded 594 new COVID-19 cases and the seventh straight day of no virus-related deaths as the ACT Government announced another four weeks of RATs for schools.

The 594 new infections is the highest amount in Canberra since 29 January.

There have now been 42,720 total COVID cases in the ACT and 31 lives lost.

The number of people in hospital with the virus has dropped by one to 48, with three patients in the ICU and two requiring ventilation.

62.2 per cent of ACT residents aged 16 and over have received a third dose of the vaccine while 76.6 per cent of children aged between five and 11 have received one shot.

There are 2,475 active cases in the ACT.

Meanwhile, the ACT Government will continue providing rapid antigen tests for our schools for another 4 weeks.

We know that Canberra families have really supported and engaged with this program.

This means that two RATs per week will be provided for all on campus students from pre-school to year 12 and all school staff in all schooling sectors – government and non-government – until the end of week 8.

Early childhood education and care staff will also continue to be provided with two RATs per week.

Families will receive communication from their schools regarding the date of their next RAT distribution.

Testing remains voluntary. Tests are being provided to assist individuals in our education communities with managing their own health.
