Have you heard? FightMND

FightMND

COVID-19 has impacted the way FightMND traditionally raises much needed funds to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Bunnings Warehouse held a Bunnings Warehouse Big Freeze BBQ Facebook event where they donated $2.50 to Fight MND for every RSVP, aiming to reach a donation target of $500,000. The stores are also selling the FightMND beanies nationally until 27 June at their trade desks and online at bunnings.com.au.

Baseball Canberra to sleep out

The board of Baseball Canberra, led by General Manager Josh Matavesi, will brave the cold and sleep out on the field to raise funds for St Vincent de Paul’s homelessness services at this year’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout on 18 June. Mr Matavesi comes to the position after a background in social work and is passionate about addressing disadvantage in the community. “Seeing the difference that $50 can make to someone is eye-opening,” he said. “It is never too late. Some of our players over the years have come from underprivileged backgrounds, and we know that someone’s background doesn’t determine their future.” The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a national event occurring on Thursday 18 June 2020.To sign up or donate, visit ceosleepout.org.au

GIVIT donation of the week: Toothbrushes

The recipient: A program which is supporting over 1,000 vulnerable tertiary students who have lost work due to COVID-19. These students are struggling to buy the basics. This program is putting together toiletry packs for students so that they can easily access essential items. Your donation of new toothbrushes and toothpastes will be gratefully received by these students during this difficult time. Delivery option: Items can be dropped-off to the service. To donate, visit givit.org.au/donate-items, search “Toothbrush” and select requests located in ACT. After you pledge the item, you will be contacted by the relevant organisation to arrange pick-up, post or drop-off.  GIVIT supports more than 350 charities and community groups across the Capital Region by matching your items with people who need them most.
