Labor has made an election promise of $250,000 for nine ACT schools to help schoolkids bounce back from COVID-19, politicians announced today.

This funding will deliver:

•           $50,000 for a shade structure at Ngunnawal Primary School.

•           $50,000 for a rainwater tank at Campbell High School.

•           $50,000 for a rainwater tank at Kaleen Primary School.

•           $20,000 for courtyard rejuvenation at Sacred Heart Primary School.

•           $20,000 for a multipurpose hardcourt area at St Thomas the Apostle Primary School.

•           $20,000 for a sandpit at Kingsford Smith School.

•           $20,000 for improvements to infants’ areas at St Clare of Assisi Primary School.

•           $10,000 for tree planting at Gordon Primary Public.

•           $10,000 for interactive whiteboards at Latham Primary School.

 “It is often left to our hard-working P&Cs or P&Fs to raise funds for these small projects, so it is great to be able to make these commitments,” said Dave Smith MP. “I know they will make a real difference in these school communities.”

The funding is part of Labor’s plan to deliver $440 million to Australian schools for better ventilation, building upgrades, and mental health support for children.

Labor says this would mean more school counsellors and psychologists, and extra funding for camps and excursions, and sporting and social activities.

“Schoolyards that are designed with care and imagination demonstrate to students that they are valued and respected,” said Dr Andrew Leigh MP. “Quality school infrastructure helps build community, boosts educational outcomes, and improves the mental and physical wellbeing of Australia’s schoolchildren.”

“Australia’s children deserve the best possible start in life, and that includes a great education,” said Alicia Payne MP. “That is why Labor is investing in school upgrades to help equip schools to provide a world-class education.”
