A 50-year-old Melba woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning on various charges including drug and weapon offences, and keeping a non-exempt animal – a three-metre-long jungle jag python.Â
Yesterday, Wednesday 25 May, ACT Policing Proactive Intervention & Diversion Team officers conducted a search warrant at a home in Melba. Â
Officers located substances suspected to be methylamphetamine and cannabis, a hydroponic growing system, a home-made conducted energy weapon, cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime, and the jungle jag python.Â
The property items were seized by police. ACT Parks and Conservation Service Licensing and Compliance members attended and confirmed no appropriate licence was held to keep the snake and removed it from the home.
The 50-year-old woman was arrested and has been charged with possession of a drug of dependence for sale or supply, possession of a prohibited weapon, keeping a non-exempt animal, and breach of good behaviour obligations.Â
Police intend to lay further charges in relation to the hydroponic equipment and possession of cannabis.
The woman is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates court today.
