Ed Cocks will replace Giulia Jones as Liberal MLA for Murrumbidgee, following the casual vacancy countback at the Legislative Assembly today.
Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee congratulated Mr Cocks and said she is looking forward to working with the newly elected MLA.
“Ed brings a wealth of valued experience from his time working in the Australian Public Service, especially in his current role at the federal Department of Health,” Ms Lee said.
“In that role, Ed has had a strong focus on mental health policy and I have no doubt he will be an asset for the Canberra Liberals and the people of Murrumbidgee as we head towards the 2024 election.
“Ed is known around the Liberal party as an incredibly hard-working grassroots campaigner.
“As policy convener for the Canberra Liberals, Ed was instrumental in fighting to keep Canberra jobs in the capital and I know he will continue to do that.
“Having lived in Canberra his entire life, Ed is a father of two and has served on a school board, and has been heavily involved in local community councils.
“I have no doubt that Ed will hit the ground running and on behalf of the Canberra Liberals, I congratulate and welcome Ed to the team,” Ms Lee said.
