A 25-year-old man has been charged in relation to three consecutive burglaries in the Weston Creek area earlier this month, which all occurred while the homeowners were inside. Â
About 3.30am on Friday 10 June, ACT Policing received reports that three men had broken into a Weston residence with the homeowners inside. CCTV footage showed that the men had taken personal belongings including credit cards and keys to a vehicle. Â
Following this, at 4.25am the same day, a second burglary occurred in Duffy, which resulted in a Mercedes Benz E250 being stolen while the homeowners were sleeping. Later that morning, the homeowners provided officers with CCTV footage of the incident. Â
A third house, also located in Duffy, was then targeted at about 5am which resulted in a Volkswagen Golf being stolen. The homeowner, who woke to the sound of entry being forced, provided police with CCTV footage and a description of personal items stolen. Â
Police reviewed CCTV and identified that the men had been in possession of what appeared to be a handgun during each incident.
The handgun had not been used by the men to threaten any of the occupants and no one was injured during the incidents.
Yesterday, Tuesday 21 June, a 25-year-old man was arrested for a range of offences in connection with these incidents, including three counts of aggravated burglary, multiple theft offences, and driving a stolen motor vehicle without consent. Â
The man was due to face court this morning, Wednesday 22 June.Â
Investigations into the identity of the other men, and the location of the handgun, are ongoing.
Anyone who has any information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
