73-year-old man dies after being swept off rocks at Wollongong

A 73-year-old man has died after being swept off rocks at Wollongong today, NSW Police reports.

About 12.50pm Monday 11 July, emergency services were called to Belmore Basin, Wollongong, following reports a rockfisher had been swept off the rocks.

A male in a small boat went to the man’s aid, before a male constable attached to Wollongong Police District jumped in to assist.

The man was brought back to shore, but he could not be revived and died at the scene.

NSW Police have since commenced an investigation and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
