Season so far
GWS Giants 15th – 87.4% | 1316 points for | 1505 points against | 5 wins 12 losses | LLWLL
After a strong start to life under interim coach Mark McVeigh, GWS have lost four of their last five and have been uncompetitive the last two weeks.
They have managed just 37 and 35 inside 50s in the last two matches, making it near impossible to kick a winning score, while Brisbane also belted them in the clearances 49-24 last week.
It has been a seriously disappointing season for a side that won a final last year and they now have five weeks to salvage something from it.
Carlton Blues 7th – 113.4% | 1483 points for | 1308 points against | 11 wins 6 losses | LWLWL
Carlton have had a terrific season, but they’ve just failed a couple of tests in recent weeks, losing three of their last five.
They found it really difficult to move the ball effectively against a quality Cats side and managed just 8 goals from 42 entries.
While it was a disappointing loss for Carlton, they still matched the Cats in several key areas and should take some positives out of the match.
The Blues have to face Brisbane, Melbourne and Collingwood in the final three matches, so they simply must win this week and next if they want a chance of a top four finish.
Last 5 meetings and Marvel Stadium history

- 2019 round 9: Giants 20.18 (138) defeat Blues 7.3 (45) at Giants Stadium
The Giants have built a strong overall record against the Blues, winning five of the last six clashes.
However, Carlton were far too strong in their previous meeting this year, claiming a 30-point victory in Leon Cameron’s last game in charge of GWS.
This will be the seventh meeting at Marvel Stadium, with the ledge all square at 3 wins apiece.
