Operation TORIC arrest duo in Canberra City hotel room

ACT Policing’s Operation TORIC has made two more arrests, with a 39-year-old woman who was on bail and a 32-year-old man facing court on multiple burglary and driving charges today, Saturday 24 September.

The pair were arrested after investigations into an aggravated burglary in Phillip on 8 September, a car theft from a dealership in Fyshwick on 9 September, and a fuel drive-off on 10 September.

Police located the stolen car, a grey Subaru Liberty, in Canberra City about 9.30pm Friday 23 September bearing stolen number plates. The car was seized and towed to a secure police facility.

About 12.05am today, the man and woman were located by police and arrested in a Canberra City hotel room.

The man will face charges of driving a motor vehicle without consent, riding in a motor vehicle without consent, attempted aggravated burglary, joint commission taking a motor vehicle without consent, joint commission minor theft, unlicensed driving, use of a number plate not properly issued, and unlawful possession of stolen property.

The woman, who was on both bail and a good behaviour order, will answer to charges of joint commission taking a motor vehicle without consent, joint commission minor theft, driving a motor vehicle without consent, use of a number plate not properly issued, and driving while licence cancelled.

ACT Policing established Operation TORIC targeting recidivist offenders to address an increase in motor vehicle thefts and associated dangerous driving and other crimes in the ACT.
