Teen arrested after gel blaster incident at Gungahlin shops

A 14-year-old teen has been arrested after allegedly pointing a firearm at a security staff member at Gungahlin Village.

On Wednesday 21 September, ACT Policing officers attended the shopping centre after reports that two young people produced what appeared to be a firearm at one of the shopping centre’s staff.

After reviewing CCTV footage, police attended a home in a nearby suburb and arrested a 14-year-old with possession of a firearm in a public place.

Police then later located the firearm, later identified as a gel blaster, at the home of a friend of the 14-year-old.

The involvement of the second individual is still under investigation.

The 14-year-old was refused watch house bail and was transferred to Bimberri Youth Justice Centre to appear before the ACT Childrens Court at a later date.

Anyone who has further information about the incident is requested to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously.
