Disqualified driver flees from police before crashing into pole in Evatt

A 28-year-old Franklin man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning after being arrested by Operation TORIC members yesterday 13 October.

About 11.05pm, police on patrol in Flynn observed a white Holden utility without registration plates parked with the engine running on Companion Crescent, Flynn.

Police stopped and attempted to speak to the driver of the vehicle, who then drove away at speed, turning left onto Kingsford Smith Drive.

Police followed the vehicle onto Verbrugghen Street and Copland Drive, Melba as well as Fuhrman Street, Spence. Dring this time, the Holden drove towards police, who were successful in deploying a tyre deflation device.

The Holden then continued onto Owen Dixon Drive, travelling south at high speed on the wrong side of the road, before the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a power pole.

The driver was subsequently arrested at the scene. He has been charged with furious driving, fail to stop for police, drive unregistered vehicle, drive while disqualified, and drive uninsured motor vehicle.

To date, Operation TORIC has made more than 90 apprehensions and laid more than 200 charges.
