Nominate now for the Ministerial Advisory Council on Women

Nominations are invited for the 2023-2024 Ministerial Advisory Council on Women (MACW), which provides strategic advice on issues affecting women in the ACT.

Interest is sought from individual women, non-binary, and gender diverse people, and representatives from ACT women’s organisations and peak bodies that are committed to the advancement of women and the opportunities available to them.

The 2023-24 MACW seeks to represent people from a range of backgrounds, including those with disability, those from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, of different ages, and from different locations across the ACT.

Minister for Women Yvette Berry said: “The power of lived experience and the voice of those connected to the community is critical in ensuring we serve the needs of Canberrans in all their diversity.

“I strongly encourage anyone eligible to nominate for these important roles.”

“Anyone who is connected to their community and who is passionate about great outcomes for women should really be involved in MACW,” said Sarah Ambrose, a 2020–22 MACW member.

“It’s really humbling to be working on the ACT Women’s Plan. It’s such an important piece of work and to have the opportunity to directly shape that plan, and what it means for women in the ACT, is a privilege.”

“The council brings people of diverse expertise and experience,” her fellow member Tulika Saxena said. “No matter what your age or background, you have an equal opportunity to participate and contribute. If you want to work on gender equity in the ACT, you don’t have to be working in the sector, you just need to bring your passion to contribute.”

Nominations close on Monday 14 November. For more information and to apply, visit www.communityservices.act.gov.au/women.
