Canberra to host 2025 Australian Masters Games

Thousands of masters athletes and their supporters are expected to descend on Canberra when it hosts the Australian Masters Games – one of Australia’s largest premier multi-sport festivals – in 2025.

The event attracts around 10,000 participants and their supporters from across the country for eight days of competition, which will be a boost to local accommodation providers and hospitality venues.

Confederation of Australian Sport CEO Rob Bradley said the Confederation “is delighted to see the Australian Masters Games back in Canberra for the first time since 2003 when more than 10,000 masters athletes competed.

“The ACT Government submitted an outstanding bid to host AMG 2025 with an extremely high quality of sporting venues, social and entertainment options and great tourism attractions – Canberra really does present the complete package,” he said.

ACT Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry said the Australian Masters Games has an extensive program of more than 50 sports for competitors and supporters to enjoy.

“Sport participation provides avenues for people to meet, build new friendships, stay physically active and support their overall wellbeing,” Ms Berry said.

“The Masters Games are open to athletes aged over 30 and some competitors continue into their 90s.

“Hosting the event is an opportunity for us to show off our beautiful city and demonstrate why we have one of the highest sports participation rates in the country.”

The next Australian Masters Games will be held in Adelaide in October 2023.
