The ACT has recorded 252 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night as high demand for COVID testing in Canberra continues.

It is the second straight daily record after 189 coronavirus cases in Canberra yesterday, including a staffer at Parliament House.

The number of people hospitalised has risen by two, with three people now in hospital with the virus.

There are 908 active COVID cases in Canberra, an all-time high. 3,062 COVID-19 cases have now been recorded since the ACT lockdown began in August 2021.

2,980 negative tests were returned in the past 24 hours while 98.5 per cent of Canberrans are ‘fully vaccinated’.

COVID testing facilities in Canberra remain under pressure with the Mitchell, Garran and Kambah sites all at capacity as of 8am this morning.

The Nicholls testing site was reopened today after the other three hit capacity and some sites had a four hour plus wait time at 12pm.

Police have asked Canberrans to remain patient and courteous at testing clinics, saying call outs are taking police resources away from priorities elsewhere.

Meanwhile, NSW recorded 6,026 cases today and one death, while Victoria hit 2,738 COVID infections and four deaths.
