ACT man extradited from NSW to face charge of vehicle theft

ACT Policing has extradited a 29-year-old man from NSW to face charges in the ACT stemming from an alleged vehicle theft last year.

About 5am on 28 April 2023, police went to a Ngunnawal residence after receiving reports of an altercation between the occupant and the 29-year-old man.

Police will allege the man fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla shortly after officers arrived, and drove away in a dangerous and erratic manner, veering into incoming traffic and almost colliding with another vehicle.

A short time later, police received reports that the driver of the Toyota had crashed while driving along the Majura Parkway, and allegedly stole a vehicle belonging to a member of the public who had stopped to render assistance.

The man was later arrested and charged by the NSW Police Force in Bateman’s Bay for offences committed in NSW.

After the man was released from a custodial sentence in NSW, ACT Policing officers applied to have the man extradited to Canberra to face charges of taking a motor vehicle without consent, damaging property, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
