ACT Health has said it is monitoring the COVID-19 situation in South Australia closely, with Canberrans urged to reconsider non-essential travel to the state while the outbreak is assessed.
Seventeen new community cases have been detected in Adelaide, and SA Health has identified a number of potential exposure sites associated with the outbreak.
In a statement, ACT Health has asked anyone who has recently been to the identified locations to be aware of COVID-19 symptoms.
“If any symptoms develop, no matter how mild, immediately get tested and self-isolate until you receive a negative result.
“Please note this is a quickly evolving situation and ACT Health will issue further advice if required.”
A number of states and territories have already responded to the outbreak with border closures, with the Northern Territory, Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania implementing quarantine or self-isolation requirements for people entering from South Australia or Adelaide. Victoria has declared the state a hotspot but the border remains open.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the border between NSW and South Australia would not be closed in response to the outbreak.
Canberrans have also been reminded about COVID-safe travelling anywhere outside the ACT, with residents urged to avoid COVID-affected areas, behave in a COVID-safe way and upon return to the ACT, monitor the COVID website of the state or territory you visited for any new cases.
