ACT Policing and ESA have called over 1,500 individuals, while 40 police officers have engaged with around 90 ACT hotels today to enforce compliance of ACT public health directions.
Police have been calling on hotels to ensure they are aware of current health restrictions and to engage with any guests who may have travelled from restricted areas.
Checks of individuals who are subject to stay-at-home-orders have also been conducted. ACT Policing, with the assistance of ESA, have called over 1,500 individuals to ensure compliance.
The ACT Government requires members of the public in the ACT to wear a mask in certain circumstances. Failure to comply with mask restrictions may result in a $1,000 on the spot fine. In more serious incidents, fines of up to $8,000 can be imposed by a court.
Acting Deputy Chief Police Officer, Hall O’Meagher, said he was pleased with the number of Canberrans cooperating with stay at home orders.
“Everyone has shown during COVID-19 that taking collective action for the good of the community is important.”
