Two men have been charged by ACT police with multiple offences, including stolen vehicles, following separate arrests in Mitchell and Narrabundah yesterday, Wednesday 10 August. 

Police will allege a Volkswagen Golf was stolen from a gym in Fyshwick on Saturday 30 July. Police subsequently located the Golf at a residence in Nicholls on 31 July. When engaged by police, it will be alleged a 32-year-old man was driving the Golf when it rammed a police vehicle and the driver then fled the scene on foot.  

About 2pm yesterday, police located the driver in Mitchell where he was arrested.  

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with two counts of unlicensed driving (having never held a licence), driving a motor vehicle without consent, damaging a police vehicle, and not giving particulars after a crash. 

The man also faces an unrelated charge of contravening a protection order that was issued in May 2022.  

A second man was arrested yesterday morning following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Narrabundah.  

On 29 or 30 July, a red Audi A4 sedan was stolen from the driveway of a residence in Forrest. On Monday 8 August, the Audi was recorded on CCTV being refueled at a service station in Griffith ACT and the driver subsequently drove off without paying.  

Police reviewed the recording and confirmed the identity of the driver. A search warrant was obtained and police attended a residence in Narrabundah where a 24-year-old man was subsequently arrested.  

He was charged with breach of parole, ride/drive in a motor vehicle without consent, theft and possession of stolen property. He faced the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday where he was remanded to next face court on Wednesday 31 August.  

The arrest of this man was coordinated by a newly established ACT Policing taskforce targeting high-risk driving behaviours and stolen vehicles which are often used in the carriage of other crimes such as burglaries and assaults.
