ACT records 1020 new COVID cases

The ACT has recorded 1,020 new COVID cases in the latest update.

There are 24 patients in hospital with the virus, three people are in intensive care with two requiring ventilation.

Active COVID-19 cases in Canberra have dropped to 5,004, while the total infections during the Canberra outbreak is up to 17,661.

12,641 people have recovered from the virus with 16 deaths.

26.86 per cent of ACT residents aged 18 and over have now received had a third dose of the vaccine.

3,739 negative PCR tests were returned in the past 24 hours.

The new number of cases does not include positive rapid antigen test (RAT) results, they will be included in tomorrow’s number.

ACT Health announced that three COVID testing facilities will be closed today due to supply issues.

The Kambah, Gold Creek (Nicholls) and Holt centres will all be shut for the day due to unspecified shortages.

ACT Health are also reminding Canberrans to report their positive RAT results via the new form on their website.

COVID across Australia

More than 92,264 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in NSW after residents rushed to post positive results from rapid antigen tests since the start of the year.

The dramatic rise in case numbers comes on top of another grim milestone as the state reported a record 22 lives lost in the 24 hours to 8pm on Wednesday.

NSW Health cautioned that some of the daily case total included people reporting positive RATs on multiple days and possible follow-up positive PCR tests.

The number includes 61,387 positive RAT results covering the period since January 1, including 50,729 in the last seven days, as well as 30,877 PCR tests.

Victoria recorded 37,169 new infections and 25 deaths as close contact isolation requirements eased for additional sectors.

Tasmania has recorded 1100 new COVID-19 cases, with 10 people being treated in hospital for virus symptoms.
