ACT records 16 new cases, 137 total

The ACT has recorded 16 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, with three of the new cases infectious while in the community.

There are now 137 cases associated with this outbreak.

13 of the ACT’s new cases have been linked to existing cases with contact tracing interviews continuing with the remaining three.

There are now four people in hospital with COVID-19 in the ACT, two of which have been hospitalised for non-covid-related issues.

The other two are receiving care for COVID-19 but at this time neither are in intensive care or receiving breathing support.

ACT Health are continuing to work with disability sector after one additional support worker has been confirmed as COVID-19 positive, bringing the cluster to a total of 15.

Over 360 exposure locations spreading across entire ACT have been recorded to date.

Additionally, there remains three cases in surrounding NSW region associated with the ACT outbreak but not included in our numbers.

ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman said there is “very little change” in the proportion of our age groups and the number of public sites of transmission remain at eight.

Yesterday 3740 COVID-19 tests were conducted across Canberra.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr said an increase in demand for testing is expected in the coming week as people start to end their 14-day quarantine period having been a close contact at an identified exposure site.

Due to the impending rain, it is anticipated there will be some disruption at the testing clinics over the next 24-48 hours.

In other news, vaccine registration has opened up to Canberrans aged 16 to 29-years-old.

The approximately 64,000 Canberrans in that age bracket can now register in the MyDHR system so they are ready to book a COVID-19 vaccination in the weeks ahead when slots become available to them.

Around 21,000 Canberrans in the 16-29 cohort are already vaccinated through the priority Pfizer program or have received an AstraZeneca shot.

It is anticipated appointment bookings will open next month.
