ACT records 658 new COVID infections

The ACT has recorded a slight rise in COVID cases with 658 new infections in the latest update.

The number of people in hospital with the virus rose by four to 43, two are in intensive care and requiring ventilation.

Of the new cases, 311 were from PCR tests and 347 from RATs.

The ACT has now recorded 55,321 total COVID-19 infections since March 2020 and 34 virus-related deaths.

Despite the rise in case numbers, the number of active cases in Canberra has dropped to 3,757.

69.5 per cent of ACT residents aged 16 and over have received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and 78.9 per cent of children aged between 5 and 11 have received one dose.

The ACT began rolling out second doses of the vaccine to children from Monday.

It’s recommended five to 11-year-olds receive their first two doses at least eight weeks apart.
