ACT records 690 new COVID-19 infections, 39 in hospital

The ACT has recorded a drop in daily COVID-19 infections, with 690 new cases in its latest reporting period.

The drop comes after Canberra’s virus numbers went above 1000 on Wednesday for the first time in more than a month.

Of the new cases, 384 were from PCR tests and 306 were from rapid antigen tests.

Hospitalisations from the virus have also gone down, from 40 to 39, in the past day.

However, there are now two patients being treated in intensive care, after nearly a week with no ICU requirement for COVID-19 patients in the territory. Neither of those in ICU are on a ventilator.

Booster rates now stand at 68.5 per cent of the ACT population aged 16 and older, while 78.6 per cent of five to 11-year-olds have received their first dose of a vaccine.
