ACT records six new COVID-19 cases

The ACT has recorded six new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, the sixth straight day of single digit case numbers.

Tuesday’s figure is the lowest number of daily cases detected in the capital for almost two weeks.

The number of people in hospital with active or cleared coronavirus cases has risen by one to eight. Four are in the ICU and requiring ventilation.

The number of active COVID cases in Canberra is now 144, bringing the total number of cases since the start of outbreak to 2,006.

There was a significant jump in testing numbers, with 3,040 negative tests recorded in the past 24 hours.

97.8 per cent of the ACT population is fully vaccinated.

The cases come as the new Omicron COVID-19 variant starts to spread in NSW, with exposure sites popping up in Sydney and the Central Coast.

Meanwhile, NSW recorded 179 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths, while Victoria reported 918 infections and six deaths.
