For the first time since 2019, Canberra’s vocational education and training sector is celebrating in-person to recognise outstanding individuals, organisations, and training providers at the ACT Training Awards.
Chris Steel, ACT Minister for Skills, said the ACT had a strong vocationale education and training (VET) sector.
“High-quality training providers offered a huge range of courses that meet the needs of learners and employers. These awards are a great opportunity to stop and celebrate the commitment, innovation, and achievements of those involved in the sector,” Mr Steel said.
The winners are:
- ACT Australian School-based Apprentice of the Year – Josh Hayes
- ACT Apprentice of the Year – William George Shipard
- ACT Trainee of the Year – Frances Lillian Zewe
- ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year – Justin Travis Drew
- ACT Vocational Student of the Year – Julia Ware
- ACT VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year – Richard Lindsay
- Norm Fisher Award – Helen Witcombe
- John Scott Memorial Award – Jane Clark
- ACT Industry Collaboration Award – CIT, Clubs ACT, SPARK, ACT Education Directorate
- ACT Small Employer of the Year – WV Technologies
- ACT Large Employer of the Year – Communities@Work
- ACT Small Training Provider of the Year – Key 2 Learning College
- ACT Large Training Provider of the Year – CIT
Mr Steel congratulated all the finalists and winners.
“I know the individuals receiving these awards will go on to enjoy great careers, and I wish them all the best for their future,” he said.
“I would also like to recognise the employers in the organisation award categories and those supporting individuals. With the workforce challenges we are currently facing, it is more important than ever that employers offer opportunities for continued learning and development.
“Through our Skilled to Succeed agenda, the ACT Government is committed to supporting the ambitions of our providers, our students, and our employers. The quality of the ACT sector is certainly showcased with these award winners.”
