Adelong gold mine extensions underway

Plans to upgrade Adelong gold processing plant, just over two hours’ drive from Canberra, are now underway.

Minerals exploring company, 3D Resources, bought Adelong mine, located approximately 80km from Gundagai, out of receivership in May this year.

The company has this week announced its partnership with Timora Pty Ltd for specialised services to plan and perform upgrades to the plant.

The company has been undertaking a strategic review of processes at the mine since acquiring the site, which 3D Resources Chairman Ian Hastings said had identified the capability of upgrades.

“The company is pleased with the progress since acquiring the Adelong Gold Project and this step to commence the upgrade of the plant is particularly significant,” he said.

“The company has always aimed to recommence production as soon as possible and upgrading and reconfiguring the plant is one of the most important steps in that process.

“The work and reviews to date have generated substantial understanding of the project which will drive the plant upgrades now underway.”

Upgrades will require specialised works in engineering, procurement, construction and management services through Timora.

Plans for the site upgrade include doubling the plant’s capacity and implementing a pre-concentration stage to improve efficiencies of mining.

Contracts with Timora are currently being finalised to undertake a more detailed plan and costing of the project.

3D Resources began mining the plant last month, for the first time since the site’s previous owners tried to mine the location in 2016.

Managing director Peter Mitchell has previously stated his confidence in the profitability of the site, despite recent failures in mining the location.

Over 22 tonnes of gold was found at the iconic site between its discovery in 1850 and the 1970s but it has failed to produce anything further since.
