Adventures in the Treetops: Canberra’s newest thrill

Get ready thrill seekers, Treetops Adventure Canberra is now officially open!

From newbies to ninjas, Treetops Canberra offers an adrenaline rush for everyone. Located in the Majura Pines, the course boasts over 90 aerial obstacles and 16 ziplines, suspended between 1-15 metres above the ground.

The park features courses for individuals aged 3 years and up, ranging from simple beginner paths to advanced and expert courses.

The Canberra venue is the 16th Treetops location in Australia and is the only one of its kind in the nation’s capital.

Yesterday, CD was lucky enough to trial a couple of the beginner-friendly courses.

Given our lack of fondness for heights, there was a nervous energy in the air as we approached the venue.

The staff were all great and made us feel at ease right away as they helped us with our harnesses and ran us through the safety demo.

It was then onto the course. We decided it best to start on the green beginner course, aptly named ‘Raiders’ Revenge’. Many of the courses are Canberra themed, featuring names such as ‘Brumbies Boulevard’, ‘Sweaty Territory’ and ‘The Capital’ (the expert course).

We hooked our clips onto the chain that connects through the course and were away. Once you’re on the course, the only way off is to go back to the start, or to finish it. It took a couple of obstacles for us to all get into the swing of things, but once we did, it was smooth sailing…for the most part anyway.

Some of the obstacles have you feeling slightly unbalanced, but the beginner course was close enough to the ground that the fear element wasn’t too real.

We got through the green course unscathed so figured we would jump up to the next level, the blue course, or ‘Brumbies Boulevard’.

It was clearly a level up from the beginner course and a few metres higher in the air as well. The obstacles weren’t all that difficult, except for one that can get you so unbalanced you almost do the splits.

While the obstacles provided a challenge, the most fun was had ziplining. ‘Brumbies Boulevard’ had multiple ziplines, including a long one early on that had you feeling the wind rush across your face as you dangle well above the ground.

The location of the park is ideal, just off the Majura Parkway so it’s not too long of a drive from anywhere in Canberra. Plus, the large trees provide plenty of shade so it doesn’t get too hot as you enjoy the adventurous workout.

For thrill seekers, Treetops Canberra is certainly worth checking out. And for those that aren’t seeking a thrill or don’t enjoy heights, you may surprise yourself at how much fun you have and how good you are.
