ACT Policing have charged a 38-year-old Fisher man with further offences following his second arrest in eight days, after reports of doorknocking in the Weston Creek area.
Police say they received multiple calls on Sunday morning regarding a man knocking on doors at residential addresses in the Weston Creek area, seeking money for “various reasons”.
He was arrested on Sunday around 3pm in Fisher and has been charged with attempting to obtain property by deception, breach of bail and breach of a good behaviour order.
The man has been remanded in custody and is expected to front the ACT Magistrates Court today, Monday 24 May.
Last week, the man was charged with obtaining property by deception, possession of stolen property and providing false details, after he was arrested at a bus stop in Weston on Sunday 16 May.
Police allege he approached a number of elderly people seeking money based on false stories and, in some cases, money was provided to the man.
Over the last few months, Weston Creek residents have voiced their concerns on social media about being approached for money by a doorknocker in the early hours of the morning.
Deputy opposition leader and Member for Murrumbidgee, Giulia Jones, has sponsored a community petition calling on the ACT Government to take action against the behaviour in the Weston Creek area.
ACT Policing has reminded residents to “question the legitimacy” of someone’s story if they are approached for money, and to report any approaches to Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information on the activities of the man that could assist police is also encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
