Amaroo man arrested on eighth disqualified driving charge

A 28-year old Amaroo man, who was the subject of two arrest warrants, will face court tomorrow on his eighth disqualified driving charge since 2017 after ACT Policing officers attached to Operation TORIC arrested him last night, Saturday 15 April.

About 7.45pm, the man was identified as the driver of a grey Subaru Impreza in Manuka, which was driven, at speed, away from police who observed it run a red light at the Brisbane Avenue intersection with National Circuit.

The vehicle was located at a Jacka residence about 8.30pm, and the man was observed to be inside the premises.

After police checks revealed several active alerts about the premises, a cordon was established to contain the location, with members from Gungahlin patrol, Proactive Intervention and Diversion Team, and Specialist Response Group assisting Operation TORIC officers.

About 10.35pm the man was arrested in a neighbouring backyard and taken into custody. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday 17 April in relation to two outstanding warrants and traffic offences including disqualified driving. This will be the man’s eighth disqualified driving charge since 2017.

ACT Policing established Operation TORIC targeting recidivist offenders to address an increase in motor vehicle thefts and associated dangerous driving and other crimes in the ACT.
