Applications for ACT Government’s Arts Activities grants open

The latest round of the ACT Government’s Arts Activities $5,000 to $50,000 funding is now open, and Canberra’s creative sector is invited to apply, arts minister Tara Cheyne announced.

Arts Activities $5,000 to $50,000 funding is open twice a year, and supports Canberra-based artists, groups, and arts organisations to undertake the creation, development, and promotion of artform-based projects; mentorships; residencies; professional or skills development; and opportunities for the community to engage in the arts.

New guidelines reflect the government’s strategies of Create, Develop and Promote outlined in Canberra: Australia’s Arts Capital – Arts Culture and Creative Policy 2022-2026 released in July and the Statement of Ambition for Canberra to be Australia’s arts capital.

The new guidelines include screen projects that would previously have been funded through Screen Canberra’s Screen Arts Fund. Screen artists will now have the same access as other artists to the two rounds of $5,000 to $50,0000 Arts Activities funding each year and year-round funding of up to $5,000. This change enables Screen Canberra to focus on building capacity.

Ms Cheyne is enthusiastic about the diversity and quality of funding applications expected, and is delighted the guidelines strategically align with the overarching policy and that screen-based applicants have more access.

“The $5,000 to $50,000 Arts Activities funding provides important support to the arts sector in supporting activities that meet the three strategies of Create, Develop and Promote, for Canberra to be recognised as Australia’s arts capital,” Ms Cheyne said.

“Funding is available across dance, literature, music, theatre and visual arts, arts-based festivals, and now includes screen, film, video, television, and digital games.

“I strongly encourage all local artists, groups and organisations to read through the new guidelines and contact artsACT team for assistance before making an application.

“I look forward to seeing the new creative ideas that will come through this process.”

Applications must be submitted via the online artsACT grants portal. Contact artsACT if you have any accessibility requirements on 02 6307 2384 or [email protected].

Applications close on 28 February 2023, at 5.00pm.

An online information session will be held on Thursday, 15 December, and a second session in early February 2023. For more information, visit the artsACT website.
