Apply for Reconciliation Day 2022 community grants

The ACT Government has launched its annual Reconciliation Day Grants program to grow understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culture, and history.

The Reconciliation Day Grants provide funding of up to $5,000 for individuals and organisations to hold meaningful events and activities in the lead-up to, during, or in support of the Reconciliation Day public holiday on 30 May.

Reconciliation Day is a significant date on the ACT calendar, said Rachel Stephen-Smith, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs.

“Having this public holiday dedicated to Reconciliation provides the space for all Canberrans to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements.

“Reconciliation should be part of everyone’s story, and these grants enable individuals and organisations to explore how they can promote Reconciliation in their community.”

Reconciliation Day Grants support community-organised events that:

•           promote understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in the wider community

•           celebrate and raise the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in the wider community

•           promote understanding of how past policies and historical events affected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

•           involve children, young people and elders in community events that promote Reconciliation

•           develop seminars and/or panel discussions on the importance of Reconciliation for all Australians.

Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday, 23 February.
