Preparation time: 5 minutes

What you’ll need

  • 3 Tbsp McKenzie’s Bi-Carb Soda
  • 500ml boiling water
  • 200ml kid safe clear glue
  • 2-3 drops food colouring

Method

Combine bi-carb soda and boiling water and stir until bi-carb soda has completely

dissolved. Allow to cool slightly.

Place glue in a disposable bowl or container. Add coloring and mix to combine.

Pour bi-carb soda mixture into the glue mixture and stir until a blob forms. Scoop up the

slime with your hands, squeeze out as much liquid as possible and knead until smooth and dry.

Tip: Please ensure this fun activity is completed with an adult present and protect all surfaces

that make contact with the ingredients and slime. Slime must not be consumed.

Kids paintings

What you’ll need

Assorted ‘Semco’ acrylic paint

Paint brushes

Water

Plastic tablecloth

Paint palette

Method

Decide on background colours for each canvas and paint on with a large paint brush. Allow to dry and repeat with a second coat to get a solid background colour. Ensure you paint around the edges

of the canvas too for a neat finish.

Once paint is dry, lightly draw design for each painting on the canvas using a pencil.

Paint the base colours for each design – pink for the watermelon, orange for the orange and biscuit colour for the cone shape. Repeat with a second coat if needed and allow to dry.

Once paint is dry you can start to paint the details on your designs, the watermelon rind and seeds, orange segments and ice cream scoops. Again allow to dry before applying another coat of paint.

Once all paint is dry, your painting is ready to hang.

If you’ve got some old CDs lying around why not get creative and turn them into fish.
  • Biome [biome.com.au] suggests on their blog to check out Pinterest and search ‘kids craft from waste materials’. Some of their favourite ideas include: make fish from old CDs and paper; poke holes in plastic bottle caps and thread them onto string to make a colourful worm; create fun prints using waste materials dipped in non-toxic paint; and use fabric from an old pillowcase or sheet to sew reusable produce bags.
  • Budget Direct has created a link with a variety of indoor and outdoor boredom buster games and activities. Simply select your child’s age, the number of participants, and whether you’re looking for an indoor game or an outdoor game, then sit back and discover heaps of fun games to keep your kids entertained. Activities range from ‘make a volcano’ to ‘learn to juggle’, ‘mini golf’ and more; budgetdirect.com.au/interactives/kids-games/
  • When it comes to inspiring ideas for toddlers, Mothercould [mothercould.com] is a popular suggestion on parenting forums. What we love? The simplicity. Many of the projects suggested – which you can also find on Facebook and Instagram – are easy and achievable. There is an emphasis on fun and many of the activities require items/ingredients that you already have at home.
