Little Athletics
If you have a child who wants to learn how to run, jump and throw in a fun and safe environment, Little Athletics ACT have a number of Indigenous scholarships available for the 2018/2019 season. Little Athletics aim to develop children of all abilities by promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle while providing opportunities for children aged between five and 16 to make friends outside of school in a positive environment. Parents and carers can also make new friends at Little A’s through volunteering. Scholarships are available for those who live in the ACT, Braidwood, Cooma, Queanbeyan, Murrumbateman and Yass. School Athletics Team Challenge
Ginninderra Athletics has partnered with Belconnen Community Service, UC Sport, the Capitals, Brumbies, Canberra Raiders, ACT Academy of Sport and the Canberra Cavalry to deliver a Community Sports Gala at Charnwood Oval on Saturday 15 September 9am-12pm. Spectators and their families can watch the event for free as well as participate in the many sporting challenges being run around the field. Each sporting club will also have their own stand where you can meet players and get signed autographs and learn about each sporting code.
NEAFL
The Canberra Demons lost their preliminary final against the Sydney Swans reserves 18.10.118 to 8.14.64 on Saturday 8 September in a lopsided encounter at Blacktown International Sports Park.
AFL Canberra
First grade senior grand finals for both the men’s and women’s leagues saw the Ainslie men secure their third consecutive premiership with an 11.14.80 to 6.10.46 win over the Eastlake Demons at Manuka Oval on Sunday 9 October. Ainslie remarkably went on to win all three senior men’s grades on the day. The women’s final saw the Eastlake Demons put a stop to the Queanbeyan Tigers’ premiership defence with a 6.7.43 to 5.1.31 win in a tough-fought match also played at Manuka on Sunday 9 October.
Tenpin bowling
Seventeen-year-old local Amy Shoesmith will represent Australia for the first time, having been selected for the Australian schools tenpin bowling team who will compete in the 2018 Asian Schools Championships in Taichung, Chinese Taipei from 30 September.

The competition’s fifth bout for 2018 will see the Black ‘n’ Blue Belles meet the Red Bellied Black Hearts on Saturday 15 September at Tuggeranong Southern Cross Stadium; moshtix.com.au

The Canberra Vikings smashed the Sydney Rays 54-17 at Concord Oval, Sydney on Saturday 8 September. Canberra will host the Western Force at Viking Park on Sunday 16 September; canberravikings.com
GWS Giants
The Giants progress into the second week of the AFL finals after comprehensively beating the Sydney Swans at the SCG on Saturday 8 October, 10.19.79 to 4.6.30. GWS will travel to Melbourne where they will take on the Collingwood Magpies at the MCG on Saturday 15 September.
Cricket ACT
James Allsopp has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Cricket ACT. Allsopp will replace Cameron French in the position, who finished with the organisation in August to take up a senior position with the Australian Sports Commission.
